Bob Tucker. . . . .took up the study of the piano at age 7 and handbells 40 years later. The results stemming from the latter did nothing to dispel the saw, "you can’t teach an old dog new tricks." Upon moving to Tucson following his retirement in September 2005, he joined the handbell choir at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where SB stalwart JoAnn Luther intrigued him with the challenging ringing opportunities in Sonoran Bells. As it happened SB was temporarily desperate for anyone who could flog bronze, and the rest is history.According to his birth certificate, Bob was born in Clovis, NM, but he never lived there more than a few weeks at a time. He has been abroad twice -- to Kenya to visit his oldest son, who was in the Peace Corps, and to Italy to visit his daughter, who was on an International Christian Youth Exchange (so far his youngest son has been no farther a field than Seattle, WA). Bob & spouse Phyllis (a retired music teacher) were married when Johnson was president (Lyndon, not Andrew). His hobbies are reading obscure books, gardening with plants that require no care, and day-dreaming about what it might be like to be a terrific musician. If he had a rich uncle who left him pots of money, he & Phyllis would hire a full-time cat nanny and travel. |
